//Zines
I make zines. While most of my writing is archived at Tempus (shattered), a lot of my work has been independently released in lo-fi publications. My zines are available at Absinthine Distribution, Moonlight Requisiton, the Chicana Stuff Tiendita, and Atomic Books. Or, you can get them directly from me for the amounts indicated below (all prices are in terms of US dollars). E-mail me to get snail-mail payment information. I'm also totally game for trades, especially the titles on my wishlist below.
If you'd like to use PayPal to order my zines, just click the "add to cart" buttons that accompany each zine description. Before checking out, please use the "add fees" button below (which adds $0.30) - I have a premium PayPal account and once they deduct their transaction fees from such negligible sums, I wouldn't have enough left to ship your order.
//Subversive Notions #1
My first-ever zine is quarter-sized 30pp, with colour covers and centerfold (inkjet on photo paper) and a parchment-paper jacket. It's text-heavy, with a lot of clean white-space because I formatted my text in MSWord - I was looking to balance computed with cut+paste though, so there's a bit of hand-drawn illustration too. Content wise, it's mostly essay style. There's a sort of first-issue "mission statement", a couple of short-story/sketches, a couple prosey poem pieces, I talk about my dropping-out experience, concerns with language, fluoride poisoning, and a bit more.

//Subversive Notions #2
SN2 is quarter-sized 54pp, all black & white, and numbered pages. This issue has a rough theme - "How to Maintain Your Subersive Notions". The emphasis is on verbal abstractions coupled with visual extrapolations. Like SN#1, "How To Maintain..." is text-heavy with MSWord formatting. This time around there's a greater sampling of illustrations - diagrams, equations and flow charts. Articles include: "How To Forget", "A Field Guide to Homeschoolers", "The Meaning of Half-Life", "Willfully Blind (Cults for Christ)" and "Puny Heroes". My favourite part of SN#2 is a series of 5 pages near the back that couple a few terse sentences with an eloquent illustration.
Zine World reviewer Jerianne had this to say about SN#2:
Brooke admits up front that the way she writes tends to leave her out of the writing. It's true. Her writing is quite intellectual and emotionally distant. Even when she writes of personal matters, her thoughts and feelings, it seems removed from her. This is not a complaint - it is just an interesting deviation from the norm.

//DIY Bath & Body #1
This is 18 pages (plus covers) half-sized, black and white copies - nothing fancy. It covers the chemistry of soap and dangers of lye, the equipment you'll need, what the ingredients do and where to find them. The instructional is very matter-of-fact - a "how to break the rules" tutorial because so many soap instructionals are way too complicated. After that, there are 9 different vegan soap recipes, whose additives and "fun stuff" can easily be swapped with other soap bases. Bonus instructions for vegan lip balm & body butter, and a useful list of resources/books and where to find ingredients (especially vegetable wax, which can be hard to track down and is the biggest obstacle to making vegan balms).
